How to make nel drip coffee:
Step 1: First, remove the wire frame in the filter. Place the nel drip filter into boiling water for 5 to 10 minutes. Remove it and brush softly with the soft-bristle brush. Step 2: Boil your water and grind about 1.8 oz of coffee beans. The grounds should be much more course than the French Press we discussed previously in another blog. Step 3: Then take the damp nel drip filter and begin to pinch around the bottom to drain out some of the water. You want the nel drip filter to be damp, but not too moist. Step 4: Add the coffee grounds to the nel drip filter very loosely. Do not compress the grounds. Then, take the thin bamboo paddle or your | spatula of choice and poke the paddle/spatula through the coffee grounds. Do this between the amount of coffee and the filter edges. Step 5: Use the paddle/spatula to make a small divot on the top of the coffee grounds. This should be the size of a nickel and as deep as a thumbtack. Step 6: Place the filter and the carafe on the gram scale and begin to pour the boiled water from the swan neck kettle into the filter. You will pace your pour and take a small break between every 45 sec/2 oz of water poured. Step 7: Remove the filter from the carafe before all of the liquid drips out and serve! |
